kevin Breaker_proposesThe Arizona Outlaws started out strong Friday night at Tim’s Toyota Center, playing against the California Eagles.  Erik Jones, #8, returned the opening kickoff to the 10 yard line, where it was run in for a TD by #6 Kevin Breaker. Breaker also ran the ball in a second time, bringing it to a score of 12- 0.

But the Eagles soon answered with a TD of their own, adding a 2 point conversion to bring the score to 12-8 with a little more than 4 minutes remaining.

Jones scored for the Outlaws again to end the first quarter at 18-8.

The beginning of the second quarter opened with another TD for the Eagles, to which the Outlaws quickly responded with a TD of their own by Breaker. Score: 26-14, and twelve minutes left in the half.

Three minutes later, the Eagles would add more points on their side of the board, and now the score was 26 – 22 in favor of the Outlaws.

That’s when the Eagles turned it up a notch, scoring again, and again.

By halftime, the Eagles had moved ahead, marching off the field with a 10 point lead: 26 – 36.

The Blue Steel Band, which was scheduled to perform at half time, had to cancel at the last minute. Two of the members are part of the Prescott Police Department, and were called out for a emergency situation. But that was fine, it just gave Kevin Breaker time to get down on his knee and propose to Mylinda Martinez, whom he had been dating for four years. She said, “Yes!”

Back on the field, however, and the battle continued. The Eagles scored almost immediately, and then the Outlaws’ Breaker scored his fourth TD of the evening bringing the score to 32-42. When asked if he had any comment after that, Breaker responded, “Keep going!”

Unfortunately, that was where the Outlaws score remained until well into the fourth quarter. But the Eagles didn’t stand still, ending the 3rd quarter with a score of 32 – 48.

During  the 4th quarter, the Eagles scored in an additional 20 points, but Breaker added two more TD’s to his total, bringing the final score to 44-68.

A major factor in the Eagles’ victory was when they realized that kicking the ball to

Breaker was a dangerous proposition. The Eagles switched up their strategy, using a series of short kicks and offside kicks, keeping the ball near midfield.

Final Score Outlaws  44   California Eagles 68
